Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using SystmOnline via the link at the top of this page

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • bring the paper form to the surgery and drop it in the box at reception
  • take it to one of our remote delivery points
  • post it
  • ask us to repeat your order when you collect your medication

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Collecting your prescription

The dispensary window is open for enquiries and collection of medication from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6.30pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and between 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

You can usually collect your prescription from the dispensary after leaving 2 clear working days after you have ordered it. For example, if you order on a Monday, you can collect your medication on Thursday of the same week. If you order on a Thursday, you can collect your medication on the following Tuesday.

You will need to let us know where you would like to collect your medication from.

You can change your preferred collection point at any time by letting us know.

Remote collection points

We can arrange for medication to be collected from remote collection points at

  • Old Chapel Stores, Buckland Newton
  • Red Barn, Hazelbury Bryan
  • King’s Stag Garage and Shop

If you choose to have your medication delivered to one of these remote points, please use the table below to work out when it will be available for you. This schedule is based on dropping your request at the village shop location.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to speak to a Pharmacist or GP for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review, however if you lose the ability to order your medication online, it is likely your review is due.

Questions about your prescription

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription please contact us to speak to a Dispenser, Pharmacist, or your GP.

Electronic prescription service

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service that you use if you choose not to use our dispensing services. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.

What to do with old medicines

Please bring unused or unneeded medication to the surgery. We can dispose of all medicines, even if we haven't dispensed them for you.

Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

We can also recyle old inhalers, please bring these back and highlight them to the staff member you speak to.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
